Mindfulness-based Self Efficacy Scale (MSES©)Authors:Bruno A. Cayoun, PsyD, MiCBT Institute, & Janet Freestun, Hobart Psychology Description: This client-rated questionnaire was constructed to measure the change in levels of perceived self-efficacy before, during, and following mindfulness-based therapy programs. It is used for both clinical and research purposes, with the advantage of measuring the consequences, rather than just the processes, of mindfulness training. Research: Some psychometric data have been collected by Linda Isbell and Matthew Hunsinger at the University of Massachusetts in a large sample (N=1250), showing good internal consistency (α=.86) and good construct and concurrent validity. In Australia, Cayoun and colleagues are continually collecting data in clinical contexts. Sally Francis and Bruno Cayoun are about to publish a study of the validity and reliability of the MSES (N=163), also showing good internal consistency (α=.86) and good construct and concurrent validity. The instrument has been piloted and used mainly in clinical settings and it is currently being used in several outcome studies with an attempt to provide more data in therapy contexts. Research collaboration is welcome and can be discussed with the principal author. → SPA |
